Non-Traditional State Operated Programs

Arkansas School for the Blind (ASB)
Students are referred to this state operated program by public school districts.  The program is responsible for the implementation of all special education services as written in the IEP and responsible for procedural safeguards and the provision of FAPE.  ASB’s provision of special education services is monitored by the state’s special education monitoring team.

Arkansas School for the Deaf (ASD)
Students are referred to this state operated program by public school districts.  The program is responsible for the implementation of all special education services as written in the IEP and responsible for procedural safeguards and the provision of FAPE.  ASD’s provision of special education services is monitored by the state’s special education monitoring team.

Department of Corrections (DOC)
School aged individuals who have been incarcerated in an adult correctional unit have the right to continue their special education services up to age 21 if they have not previously received a high school diploma.  DOC is monitored by the state’s special education monitoring team.

Division of Youth Services (DYS)
DYS has and education system for students who have been adjudicated to the DYS programs within the DYS education system.  DYS provides special education services and is monitored by the state’s special education monitoring team.

Human Developmental Center at Conway (CHDC)
The human development center located at Conway is licensed by DDS.  It is the only DDS licensed human development center that serves school aged students. Students are parentally placed or placed by Division of Human Services (DHS).  CHDC provides special education services and is monitored by the state’s special education monitoring team.
