What is the video library?


The library is operated by the Dawson Education Service Cooperative (DEC) Liaison Group for the purpose of providing information on inclusive practices to Arkansas educators.
 

How can I access the library?


Arkansas educators may check out videos from the library for school viewing by submitting a Video Request Form signed by a school administrator.  The video will be shipped to you in advance of your request date.  Please contact Rose Merry Kirkpatrick at 1-501-835-3330 to obtain a copy of the form and to find out if a specific video will be available on your date needed.Users must return the video within four days of the request date insuring each video for $150.00.
 

What videos are available?


New  “Releasing the Power” (DVD)

This one hour DVD narrated by Dr. Marilyn Friend spotlights the Charlotte-Mecklenberg School District’s exemplary inclusive practices and co-teaching programs.  Interviews with the district superintendent and principals provide insight into the expectations, challenges, and supports necessary to ensure all students are learning in co-taught classrooms. It comes with viewing guide and Dr. Friend’s rubric for judging fidelity of implementation.

New “Instructional Power!” (DVD)

This 30 minute DVD narrated by Dr. Marilyn Friend is a collection of simple yet effective strategies and ideas for increasing student engagement and participation in co-taught classrooms.  Film clips from elementary, middle and secondary co-taught classrooms illustrate how the strategies can be easily implemented. 

New  “More Power!” (DVD)

Dr. Marilyn Friend’s new DVD builds on the six co-teaching formats in the context of seven key dimensions of effective instructional practices across K-12 co-taught classroom settings.  The DVD is designed so that each of the seven key effective instructional practices sections can be viewed individually and in any order.  A facilitator’s guide is included.


“Power of 2” (DVD)

This new one hour DVD by Dr. Marilyn Friend provides more in-depth information on the Co-Teaching Model. It includes classroom clips, interview with co-teachers and a facilitator’s guide with handouts.

“Using Co-Teaching to Teach Diverse Learners”

A 10 minute video from ASCD provides an overview of Co-Teaching and its critical elements. It includes scenes from a third grade co-taught classroom.

“Collaborative Planning: Transforming Theory into Practice”

A 32 minute video by Dr. Richard Villa provides background on the philosophy of Inclusion and provides specific strategies for teaming effectively.

The Power of 2: Making a Difference Through Co-Teaching (Video)

Dr. Marilyn Friend narrates this video which provides an excellent overview of Co-Teaching as well as classroom clips of five different instructional formats that illustrate how two teachers can both be actively engaged in providing instruction to students in typical classrooms. It is designed for staff development and comes with a facilitator's guide and handouts.

Complexities of Collaboration

Dr. Marilyn Friend uses interviews with collaborating teachers and classroom clips to illustrate five significant dilemmas that occur when educators work together.  Dilemmas include meeting differing perspectives of student performance, forming classroom partnerships, managing disagreements on a team, finding and using planning time, and coping with being faced with the multiple demands inherent in working collaboratively.

Strategies for Co-Planning and Co-Teaching

Wendy Dover shares strategies for structuring the co-planning process as well as the environment in a co-taught classroom.

Strategies for Making Curriculum Modifications

Wendy Dover shares strategies for choosing the appropriate supports and services for Inclusion settings as well as techniques for making modifications at various levels.

INCLUSION

This series of three videos published by ASCD includes information on the inclusion philosophy and classroom examples of instructional strategies, and profiles of successful students.  It comes with facilitator's notebook and handouts.

Facing Inclusion Together Through Collaboration and Co-Teaching

This video is from The Inclusion Series and demonstrates inclusion in action at school, home, work, and play and provide models of cooperative teamwork and effective support systems.

Successful High School Inclusion:  Making Access a Reality for all Students

Dr. Marilyn Friend narrates this video which takes the viewer to a high school setting in which the principal and staff describe how they transformed their parallel systems for typical and disabled students into one system dedicated to assisting all students in meeting higher expectations.  A viewer's guide is provided along with a copy of this high school's student profile form.

Collaborative Problem Solving

Anita DeBoer demonstrates the art of Collaborative Problem Solving by modeling the technique with a classroom teacher.  The video comes with facilitator's guide and handouts making it an excellent training tool for educators involved with Indirect Services or Co-Teaching.

How Difficult Can This Be?  The F.A.T. City Workshop

Dr. Richard D. Lavoie conducts a workshop for educators, parents, and students that enables them to experience the frustration, anger and tension that is often part of the daily classroom life of students with learning disabilities.  The video and accompanying facilitator’s guide can be used with large or small groups to sensitize participants to the impact of learning disabilities.
